Help-O-Bot 3000
In a world where convenience is king, our robot protagonist, Help-O-Bot 3000, takes it upon himself to automate EVERYTHING - including the fun things we humans enjoy. But can too much of a good thing turn into a bumbling mess?
This real-time Lego brickfilm humorously explores the influence of AI and automation on our lives and raises questions about our dependency on technology. It's a funny, thought-provoking rollercoaster ride that serves as a quirky critique of our AI-driven world.
Self-thinking machines are on the verge of unleashing their full creative potential in our society. But where do we draw the line? Is AI just a superpower for the human imagination? Or will it lead us into a chaotic mess of inflationary creativity and overdependence? And will it ultimately make the world a healthier and happier place? These are the big questions we need to address, and they are waiting to be answered.
The video was created within one month and explores a new frontier for Lego brickfilms. As everything was filmed in real-time, I was able to try out new techniques that were not possible before with traditional stop-motion animation. This includes real camera movements, natural lighting, action sequences, animated backgrounds and the use of physics. All this led to a much higher production speed and the luxury of being able to record multiple takes.
However, it also had its limitations, as I always had to hide the scaffolding needed to animate the props. Walk cycles, facial animations and direct hand interactions were also not possible. Despite its limitations, to my surprise it turned out quite well. The fluid animation and natural motion blur give the whole film a unique and authentic quality. And above all, it seems that it is precisely these small imperfections that make up reality. And that might be a lesson that some machines have yet to learn.
